About Us

Elewa Cancer Foundation (ECF) is a legally registered non-governmental, non-profit organization established in 2014. The foundation was founded in response to a critical gap in the training of primary health care providers—including medical officers, clinical officers, and nurses—on the early detection, diagnosis, and management of cancer. Recognizing the urgent need for better awareness and capacity-building in oncology care at the primary healthcare level, the organization adopted the name “Elewa”, a Swahili word meaning “understanding”, symbolizing its commitment to equipping healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to improve cancer outcomes.

  • Mission: To equip primary healthcare providers with knowledge and tools for early cancer detection and care.
  • Vision: A future where every Kenyan has access to timely and effective cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Since its inception, ECF has been dedicated to empowering healthcare professionals with specialized training, fostering early detection initiatives, and strengthening cancer care services across communities. Through strategic partnerships, continuous mentorship, and advocacy efforts, the foundation seeks to bridge the gap between awareness and action, ensuring that cancer is detected and managed at the earliest possible stage to improve patient survival rates.

To address this challenge, ECF focuses on training, mentorship, and advocacy, ensuring that medical officers, clinical officers, and nurses are well-equipped to identify early warning signs, conduct screenings, and provide essential patient education. By collaborating with hospitals, health institutions, and policymakers, we strive to integrate effective cancer management strategies into primary healthcare systems.

Beyond training, ECF also works to enhance access to cancer screening, treatment, and palliative care services, ensuring that every patient receives the support they need at every stage of their journey. Through research, partnerships, and community outreach, we are building a future where cancer is no longer a death sentence but a manageable condition with better treatment outcomes.
